The Ripple Effect

Small actions. Big ripples.

  • Kindness
  • Empathy
  • Responsibility

When Lola Bunny forgets her lunch treat, a grumble sets off a chain reaction that sends the whole playground tumbling, from Archie Bear’s tower to Billy Hedgehog’s spines. It takes Miss Pickles, a small stone and a still pond to show the class how far a single action can travel.

A rhyming story about the power of our choices, and how one small act of kindness can brighten many days. It ends by asking: what kind of ripples did you create today?

The Gratitude Bell

A little bell. A big reminder. A more grateful heart.

  • Gratitude
  • Mindfulness
  • Ages 4–8

Archie Bear is having a very bad day. His cereal is gone, the walk to school is too hot, and his friend gets all the praise. Then Mum shows him a little bell on a red ribbon and tells him a secret she learned as a cub: with every ring, it gets easier to see how much there is to be thankful for.

A gentle bedtime story that helps children pause, reflect and appreciate the world around them, and helps grown-ups start the conversation. It ends with a question to answer together: what are you grateful for?

Because I Love You

For children who struggle to understand rules.

  • Understanding rules
  • Family
  • Reasoning

Millie Mouse wants to know why: why school, why brush her teeth, why no cake for breakfast, why screen time has to end. In this story the grown-ups don’t answer “because I said so”. They explain the reason behind each rule, and Millie starts to see that it all comes from love.

A gentle rhyming book for talking through everyday rules, with a refrain little listeners will soon join in with: “Okay, I suppose, I guess I can see…”

Bobbin the Christmas Robin

A little story to show the meaning of perspective.

  • Perspective
  • Jealousy
  • Christmas

Back at school after the holidays, the children of Wonderness Wood share their Christmas stories, and everyone ends up a little jealous of everyone else. Bobbin the Robin has watched over them all and knows the full picture. With help from his mum, and a letter from Santa himself, he shows that things aren’t always as they seem.

A heartwarming winter story about jealousy, kindness and seeing the bigger picture.

About the author

Jo Power is a writer, teacher and mother from County Cork, Ireland. She has a BA in English and Psychology and an MA in Primary Education, but what qualifies her most for writing these books is her life with young children: how they act, how they think and how they learn.

Jo hopes everyone reading, and of course listening along, can relate in some way to the stories she shares. There are more titles in this collection on the way.
